The cold-weather months are kind to no one. Light skin looks pasty in the dead of winter; olive skin can take on a dull, greenish tone; and dark skin tends to look ashen. But a few tweaks to your makeup can make all the difference.

Skin:
Using the MUA makeup primer, £4 is the best way to make your makeup stay put on for longer. It prepares the skin for the makeup application, it pampers the skin and creates a protective base for longer- lasting, natural looking foundation application and wear for cold windy wintery days.
Foundation:
I'm never a fan of heavy foundation; I prefer to use a dewy formula and a light hand when applying it. Consider matching your MUA matte foundation, £2 to your neck. During winter, the skin tone can be quite different than it was during the summer months. In order to keep your face looking natural, always choose a foundation that closely matches your skin tone throughout the year. In winter, our skin tone tends to be at its palest, so make sure to test a foundation before you buy it. Try a small amount on your skin and let it set for a couple of minutes, and look at the results in the best light available.
Get a glow:
MUA Bronzer, £1
MUA Mosaic Blush, £2.50
Bronzer is not for summer only, but you do need a lighter colour in winter. Pick a MUA powder bronzer, £1 that is no more than one shade darker than your skin tone. Blend it over the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion using a big round brush, and then top it off with MUA blusher in your desired shade, £1.
Eyes:
Extreme curl mascara,£1
Pressed Powder, £1
If it's particularly windy or biting and you expect to be outside for any length of time, switch to MUA Extreme curl waterproof mascara, £1 And if you find that your makeup tends to rub off on your hat or scarf, set it with a little MUA pressed powder, £1 before you head out the door. It's less messy than loose powder and should help preserve your look.
Lips:
Dry, chapped lips? The below freezing, windy conditions can really work a number on our lips during the winter months. Your lips are the most fragile skin on your body, so make sure to keep them moisturised and kissable with our Lip-gloss tubes for only £1!
Best lipstick colours for the winter:
Inspired by this season’s sophisticated 40s trend, dark lip shades are a winter essential to update your every-day make-up look. Deep vampy plums and classic berry-reds were showcased at Fashion Week among others on their 40s inspired Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalk shows.
I LOVE Shade 8 for this winter, A gloss finish lipstick in a shade 8 described as dark brown red. The perfect ‘screen siren’ colour. If you haven’t tried this shade, then you are missing out– all the MUA lipsticks are very highest quality, and this creamy lipstick is no different to any other leading brands.
